What is Invest?
Invest is a discipleship scheme designed to help you grow in the Christian faith. It contains resources which should help you get into helpful Christian habits, well as deepen your understanding of God’s Word and grow in your relationship with God.
The key parts of the scheme are:
1) Mentoring
A key part of Invest is the mentoring of a participant by an older Christian who is able to encourage and help the younger christian. Each participant is assigned their own individual mentor who will make contact early on during the scheme. The mentor is the first point of contact for the participant.
2) Daily Bible Reading
Participants are expected to read through the entire Bible in a definite time period, although how this is done is flexible. We include the Young Life ‘Daily Bible Readings’ scheme with the introductory pack, but other schemes are acceptable provided the result is that the whole of scripture is systematically read .
3) Bible Study
There is a great benefit in studying whole books in detail to
get to grips with their message, and so the compulsory reading list includes a commentary on Romans, giving the opportunity to tackle one of the most important doctrinal sections of the Bible.
4) Verse Memorisation
Although not easy, Scripture Memory is extremely valuable and the scheme includes 12 verses and guidelines how to do this. Those following the scheme are expected to learn two verses every month.
5) Prayer
There is a commitment to pray specifically for people and events throughout the year. A prayer diary is included in the introductory pack with ideas on how to organise your prayer life. Participants will be sent regular UBM and YL prayer letters too.
6) Reading
Reading books is a great blessing. We have included a compulsory list of six books to read during the year, with a further six recommended for the keen reader.
7) Recordings
Audiocassette tapes are an ideal way to maximise the use of time. They can be listened to while driving, doing housework or many other every day tasks. Participants are sent tapes at regular intervals, and mentors need to be familiar with the topics covered.
Cost
Invest costs £25 for all the materials, tapes and the first book on the reading list: "True Discipleship". The rest of the books on the list can be bought from the office at a discounted rate or from most christian book shops.
The scheme lasts one year, but a set of materials for the second year is available to allow those who wish to continue to remain within the scheme with new resources.
