Promoting UBM

An Encouragement:

“I have but one passion - it is He, it is He alone. The world is the field, and the field is the world; and henceforth that country shall be my home where I can be most used in winning souls for Christ.” – Count Ludwig Von Zinzendorf, leader of the Moravian church.

The Moravians were known for their commitment to a 24/7 prayer watch which continued nonstop for over 100 years. On 26th Aug 1727, 24 men and 24 women covenanted together to pray in intervals of 1 hour each, day and night. The Moravians (known as “God’s Happy People”) prayed for the missionary expansion of the gospel. Their prayers became the catalyst for one of the world’s greatest missionary movements. By the time Zinzendorf died in 1760, the Moravians had sent out 226 missionaries and mission stations had been established across the world.

Our Challenge:

Recruitment is a huge prayer point. Ideally we need 900+ volunteers each year. Although we predominantly have those in the 15-25 age bracket, we would love more families and ‘maturer’ people too. Making UBM accessible to all is one of our key strategies.

What can you do to help?

1)    Pray: Simply put, we need to do what Luke 10v2 tells us to do!

2)    Apply: As well as 1st timers, people joining a UBM team for a 2nd, 3rd, 4th+ year are a huge asset. To increase the retention rate as well as new recruitment  would help.

3)    Bring: Without doubt, this is the most effective way of recruiting. If each one could bring one, then that would resolve all recruitment issues! Is there someone you could encourage to join you on a team?

4)    Support: Whether you are able to join a team or not, maybe you/your church could help someone else go by covering some of the cost. An idea we introduced in 2016 is gift vouchers. Maybe you can give one to someone to cover their membership or team fees.

5) Show: We have two promotional DVDs. Is there a friend, a group of friends, a youth group, a CU etc you could show them to? And there are other videos on youtube (ubm99) or our vimeo channel (where they can be downloaded).

6) Promote: Following on from 5), can you organise a UBM promotional meeting – or even a 5-10 minute slot in a church service? We can provide plenty of resources (flyers, brochures, DVDs) and can provide a speaker too. Maybe you are able to introduce UBM to other churches in your area. We have a leaflet about the history of UBM (“I do like to be beside the seaside" written by Roger Carswell). Perhaps you could keep a handful in your car, bag etc.

7)   Social Media

Social Media: This is a good way of keeping in touch with latest UBM news - plus it gives opportunity to share that news with others. Although our identity is not bound up with the number of ‘likes’ or ‘shares’ or ‘followers’, the more we have increases the number of people who hear or see something of our work.

8)    Powerpoints: We have various presentations with facts and figures, stories and testimonies. If you would like any then please get in touch.

9)    Stories: “UBM works!” (said guardedly as we rely totally on Him). Hearing some of the wonderful conversions from last year and to see discipleship growth in so many Christians is reason enough to come! Ask for details!

10) Lots more!: These are just some ways we’d love you to help us with in the task of recruitment. So over to you to try any of the above or anything else that will encourage others to join a UBM team in the summer.
